I believe that after taking EWRT1AS and EWRT 1AT class which really improve my English writing and reading skill that benefit not only for myself but also the people around me. I am glad that whatever I have learned in my English class, I can share my knowledge and experiences, learning strategies to my other friends. I am not good at writing skill, but I asked help for myself that by visiting office hour of my professor, going tutoring center and attending workshops that really help improve my English reading and writing. I was born in Myanmar the education system was not the same as here it is hard for me to keep up my assignment at the beginning. In the past quarter, before taking EWRT 1AS and EWRT1AT class, I had given up many classes because I had a hard time to write a good summary or essay. When I signed up the EWRT 1AS class, I was not confident enough myself. I was hesitated asked myself many times can I do it or can I able to manage my assignment? I am not good at writing but when taking this EWRT1AS class at the beginning I am still lost my idea where to start and what to write. I was a slow learner, but I tried to read the paragraph and article in different way which make me easier to understand.
All the students who are taking English class can get help from the “Student Success Center”. I am really impressed the education system here which provided a lot of help and resources. Any student who needs help can go to the “Student Success Center” and getting help from the student tutor, instructor, and professor. I have attended workshop at student success center that improving my English writing skill, vocabulary, get new idea and strategies of develop the essay paragraph, and manage time writing. I strongly recommend to my friend attending workshop is very useful for the English learner student. At workshop I gained many different idea and strategies sharing by the student who are taking the different level of English class. It is very useful I love to go every week and participate their discussion.
I explore the different strategy to improve my reading skills. I found the different reading strategy which make me easier to understand. I scanned the paragraph and paste in the audio application I listened and read multiple times. After listening my reading assignment multiples times, I can understand more deeply also easier to write the summary and response in the discussion. Reading lesson make me a lot of improvement and gain the idea for the summary and easier to response the discussion.
Annotating the article and summary help improve my reading and writing skill. According to Professor Anne Argyriou stating in the feedback of my reading and annotation assignment that “Once you have your summary comments, include more of your thoughts as to which might be important and why in future annotations. That way, you can return to the text when looking for ideas to write about” based on my professor feedback and guidance which help me more deeper understanding and encouraged me to read more. When doing the annotation paragraph that help me easier to understand the passages also, I gained more idea to summarize the essay. Reading and annotation not only progress my reading skill but also profb2icient vocabulary and improve my writing skill. While taking EWRT 1 AS and EWRT 1 AT class I realized that I had made a lot of improvement compared to the previous quarter. I really like the annotating and, I love to participate the discussion session that progress my thinking and writing skill.
Moreover, I really like the PIE graphic organizer that format better paragraphs which help me easier to organize my essay. PIE graphic organizer helped with organizing my writing and implementing ideas that is the best the strategy for me. Although, my essay was not perfect enough I tried to correct based on the feedback that I received from professor and my classmate, I revised the essay which help me improve my writing skills. Although I still not a good writer, I become a good reader after taking EWRT 1AS and EWRT 1 AT class. In the past I did not like to read the books but now I am interested to read the novel, fiction book eager to know more and willing to improve my English than before. I was so happy because I feel get more courage to learn advance writing class in next quarter.
I did not like the online learning system because we cannot have face to face interaction with friend liked school campus. The disadvantages are after zoom session finished all the students were going offline very fast. Even if I want to ask about assignment, I had to send email to my friend and waiting until they reply. Compared to in person class, I can ask the professor and discuss with other student at the same time. Another reason that I don’t like the zoom class because I had to wait until the other student finish talking. Online student feedback is limited as we can ask the teacher one student at a time. Because of pandemic all the school still conducting online learning system. I found the advantages and disadvantages from online learning. At the beginning of online learning system, I had a hard time because I am not familiar and how to use zoom effectively. Although I don’t really like online learning system when the time passed, I was feeling comfortable and familiar taking the online class. The benefit of online learning system is I don’t need to drive to school it save the time and money. I can stay home spend time with family, can have more time on my study. When trying to view in positive way because of pandemic I can save more time, gained knowledge how to use the virtual technology effectively. Though our daily life does not go back to normalcy we can find the best way to deal the pandemic.
