Is social networking helpful or harmful?

Is social networking helpful or harmful?

Sample paragraph: social networking

Social networking is detrimental to society because it can make people depressed. People tend to feel intimidated or even isolated by comparing their lives to others’ when the others post pictures or write something on their status.  Considering people are inclined to upload pictures of their happy moments or write things they want to brag about, no wonder people start to become skeptical about their lives, thinking that they are not having a good time nor enjoying their lives as others.   In “Social Networking Makes Twits of Us All,” Maria Quinlan said that it’s not difficult for people to manipulate and create the life they want for their online friends. Therefore, it appears to a lot of people that everybody is happy except for themselves. For instance, I used to have Facebook when I was in high school.  It seemed as though everyone else was having more fun than me and leading such interesting lives.  One day at the end of summer, I was scrolling through my Facebook and I saw pictures of my friends’ vacations to beautiful places all around the world. I had stayed home all summer and felt so left out. I felt sad when I compared my life to my friends’ lives. Therefore, I decided to delete my Facebook account, and after a while, I began to feel better and happier about the life I was living.  In a nutshell, the sadness which is caused by social networking is harmful.  (244 words)
